Volunteering Ideas
Habitat for humanity: This was started by President Jimmy Carter. You build houses. You do not have to have any knowledge. Just bring your self and your lunch. What a great way to help out your community! You know I had a great idea today. Sometimes our companies that we own or work for are only concerned on making money. How about you gather some of your workers and take them to go build a house for your community.
Christopher Reeve Foundation:The Christopher Reeve Foundation is committed to finding treatments and cures for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other neurological disorders, and improving the quality of life for people living with disabilities.
The Christopher Reeve Foundation's roots stretch back to 1982 when the American Paralysis Association was formed by a group of people that refused to accept the prevailing notion that the spinal cord, once injured, could not be repaired. The founders of the American Paralysis Association had an unwavering belief that researchers and neuroscientists, working together, would find a way to connect and regenerate the damaged nerves and cells that result in paralysis.
Christopher sought out the organization following his injury in 1995. As Christopher said, "I have always been a crusader for causes I believe in. This time, the cause found me." Christopher shared the American Paralysis Association's belief in a cure and lent his name, passion and drive to the organization which ultimately became known as the Christopher Reeve Foundation.
Together, we've come a long way. The research progress in recent years has been outstanding. Awareness and perception of spinal cord injuries has shifted dramatically, both in the scientific community as well as in the general public. Today, our belief in a cure is shared by the neuroscientists, researchers, clinicians and, perhaps most importantly, thousands of people living with spinal cord injuries and their families. The momentum is ours. We will Go Forward.

Washing windows: As you all know there are a lot of windows out there. They all need to be cleaned. Someone out there needs your help. So why not get a bunch of homeless people together and wash windows to help them get back into society.
Meals on Wheels: Helping others by passing meals out.
Feeding homeless: Go to your local church and see if they have a program for feeding homeless. I did this with a friend. We helped prepare and distributed over 250 meals. Anyone could do this and they greatly appreciate you. You might be able to talk to a few of them. Really any of us could be there. Next time you see a homeless person ask them if you could help them. Or maybe just give them a new tooth brush and tooth paste. Last Saturday I was walking into Denny's and there was this homeless kid like 20 years old asking me for money. I said I didn't have any. As I was walking in I felt guilty about him staying outside while I eat. Well I don't like eating by myself anyway. So I went back outside and asked him if I could buy him breakfast. So I did. So many people think homeless people are there because they have mental problems. I think that is not the case in some. I told this guy all he needs to do is start washing windows for people. Everyone has one. I even suggested the military. Or the most simple one go back home with your parents. It made me feel better helping someone else out. Made my problems seem so small.
Volunteering at your local Nursing home: A friend and I go to a local nursing home and all we do is talk to the older people. Just seeing a young face helps them out. This is something you could do.
